Stride into Spring
The vernal Spring Equinox was upon us, although the weather felt decidedly wintery. The Striders made their way up to Old Chamber campsite for a weekend of running..
The idea was to run for 24hrs between 12 noon Saturday & 12 noon Sunday. There was a 10k & a 5k loop up on the hills above Hebden Bridge. There was a mixed group of women ranging from Meg who had only started c25k this January to the usual suspects, Jilly and Amanda, who would keep going, Iona was going to push for her last lot of training before her marathon. Some of the group came up for a while before retreating to the warmth of their own beds, only to return the next day to tackle the route again. Some hardy souls camped up there in tents, the barn and even the back of a car! Urban Burritos arrived around midnight with hot food which was much appreciated by all.
Jilly, Amanda, Cath, and Penny took the sunset lap and, despite the wind, got to the Pike for a stunning sunset! Jilly, Amanda, Jo and Becky took the sunrise lap & it couldn’t have been more different… they almost ran into the pike before they saw it!! A lot of laughter, chatter, and flapjack was shared over the weekend.
The girls stepped up to the challenge as always:
Amanda managed 40 miles!
Becky and Jo managed 25km each after having not run much recently due to niggles
Meg was over the moon with 2 5km laps, it’s unclear who was the support and who was the athlete but she did manage to persuade her partner to join her for both laps and bulk out a team
Cath and Penny (who don’t always come as a pair…) loved doing something different, in fact Cath loved it so much she was too excited to sleep and came back as soon as she could the following morning.
Jilly and Iona thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, and the various small children who had camped loved collecting in the glow sticks once they were no longer needed. They even had a little run around the field themselves.
The Striders aim to put on different events on a regular basis so that everyone can try something different & push themselves just a little more, it mixes up the training and brings a little excitement to the proceedings!
